Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How do I know if this is right for me?
If you're unsure, the best thing to do is reach out. A brief conversation , no cost, no obligation, can help you get a sense of whether this feels like a good fit. Trust your gut.
Q: What happens in the first session?
The initial consultation is a relaxed conversation. There's no formal assessment to fill out beforehand. We talk about what's brought you here, a bit about your background and situation, and what you'd like from the sessions. It's also a chance for you to ask me questions.
Q: How many sessions will I need?
It depends entirely on what you're working through. Some people find a focused course of six sessions is enough to make a real difference. Others prefer ongoing support over a longer period. We'll talk about this together and review regularly.
Q: Is it confidential?
Yes. Everything you share stays between us, with two exceptions: if I have serious concerns about your safety or the safety of someone else, and if required by law. I'll always talk to you about this before taking any action where possible.
Q: Can I do sessions via video call?
Yes, telehealth is the primary way I work. Sessions take place via a secure video platform. In-person sessions in Tauranga are available by prior arrangement (an additional venue fee applies).
Q: What if I need to cancel?
Life happens. Please give at least 24 hours' notice where possible so the appointment can be offered to someone else. Late cancellations or no-shows may incur a fee.
Q: Do you work with young people?
My primary focus is adults (18+). If you're enquiring on behalf of a young person, please get in touch and I can help point you toward appropriate services.
Q: How is this different from seeing a psychologist or counsellor?
Psychologists are trained in formal psychological assessment and clinical diagnosis. Counsellors focus primarily on talk-based emotional support. As a Registered Social Worker and Behavioural Health Consultant, my practice sits across these worlds - I bring clinical knowledge, systems-awareness, and practical intervention skills together. The focus is always on you as a whole person, not just your presenting problem.
